So much stuttering .. what happened to New Alfie ?
being around a grumpy ol’ cunt does that to you.
InCase, do you sell prints of your art?
It must be such a drag being attractive, skilled, and in demand.
They’re going to Lyon? Well i hope i will see them there (someone from the city of Lyon, France)
Well, what did you leave for?? So far, Alfie’s only motivation was to get out of Pickering and away from her parents. It’s not like she was chasing a particular dream – getting out into the world *was* the dream.
And traveling takes scratch, hon. She’s just lucky she has marketable skills. Take the job, save up, and then go adventuring. (Or stay with the caravan until you find a new town you’d like to settle in.)
I think her plan is to stay with the caravan, but Abe seems to think she’s looking to settle somewhere. Alfie definitely doesn’t have any long term plans beyond seeing new stuff/having sex.
I think adventuring in the classic D&D style would get Alfie labeled a sociopath in her world. I doubt there are many rampaging goblins and any bandits that doe xist would be handled by the millitia. No doubt she find much of it boring
As someone who is getting ready for work right now, work is never supposed to be very exciting, Alfie. You work, you pay your bills, you buy manga, you eat. The circle continues. lol
Polite disagreement. If all you’re after is the daily grind, then sure. It’s grinding for a reason. Like my experience with customer service… I’d rather die.
But to say never? Yeesh. I’d feel kinda bad if that’s the only work-related experience a person had. I’ve had jobs that I found exciting/fun/interesting. Even if other people wouldn’t… Then again literally anything is better than sitting at a desk all day listening to people complain out their butts. It can’t all be exciting, of course, and it doesn’t have to be. But at the very least I need to do something I enjoy otherwise I’ll go nuts.
Some work to live, some live for their work.
But if you honestly can’t imagine that anyone enjoys their job, then I am very sorry for your life.
If it were fun, they wouldn’t have to pay people money to do it. They’d sell tickets instead.
… Seriously, have you only ever worked in a coal mine or something? Where there’s no sunlight and a 50% chance of death? Fuck.
This is the real world. Not everybody gets to be an astronaut.
You’ve never had to do manual labor for a living? Never had to work retail and get screamed at and verbally abused by rude people all day every day? Never had to flip burgers or wait tables? Never had to put yourself at the mercy of a temp service and never know where your next meal or rent payment was coming from, from one week to the next? Hooray for you. I’m sure you’re much smarter and richer and cooler and better than everyone else in every way. Just remember that’s not the world everyone lives in, not even in the First World these days, not since “globalization.”
I really like the art on this page. After so many scenes set inside rooms, there is something refreshing about the sense of sunlight and space and fresh air, on what looks like it might be a crisp autumn morning. Not every artist can do that well.
Something Melly said back in chapter 6 came back to me now:
“You don’t know what it’s like, Alfie, you’ve never been poor…”
Alfie’s never been on her own. She’s never been outside of Pickering and she’s always had her parents around. She’s worked with her family but never truly had to work day and night for money. And when telling her stories about the outside world I doubt Vera ever told Alfie all the truth of why she came back to Derek.
And even now, for her first time outside Pickering, she’s still not on her own, she’s got Marco and a whole caravan with her and luckily there’s always the need for an extra pair of hands to work. (Abe complementing her work saying she’ll easily find job is without a doubt speaking from experience from somebody who had to work hard for their daily bread all their life, like so many others, and other’s would take that compliment). There’s food and shelter and people to protect her.
This is still the easy part of her story.
I’m curious to see what happens to Alfie’s nonchalant attitude if she ever, truly finds herself on her own, without company, money, food or a place of belonging….
so she’s going to get orc’d fairly soon, right?
what the fuck is wrong with you?
Now that she’s on the road maybe we can see some more races like orcs and trolls. :)
Look how in that last panel, she’s gripping the workbench in aggravation. GRRRR!
SHe and her boss have the same look on her face. HAAAAAAAAAAA
We’ve had some many new delicious characters that I’m putting my internet money on Duvain being the one calling Alfie ‘Sweetness’.
Duvain’s so lovably hateable. <3
Ah, crap. Checked tumblr, lost my moneyz. sadz
Oh GAWD, who is it? Who is it, who is it, who is it?!
it’s MR. HAAANKEY, THE CHRISTMAS POO!
No, NO! The holidays are OVER!
Begone with your festive, nutty stick of feces!
Are they annoyed over their conversation or because of the voice from off-screen?
Lyon? Are they in Fantasy-France?
Of course she’s got good hands, she gets a lot of practice.
This is the most personable Mr. Abe ever gets.
this needs to be a point-and-click adventure game
Invade has done those sort of stories by vote before on different sites
God, no. NO.
This needs to be a full-scale, TOEE or NWN2 -style, graphic eye-candy CRPG. Get Obsidian on the phone, dammit.
Because seriously, fuck yet another P&C game. It’s not as if there aren’t 840.000 of those around already.
No it doesn’t. This sort of story is that at all suited for any type of game.
The annoyance is strong with both of them. I love it!
I mean, it’s enjoyable worldbuilding in a way and sets up later sex scenes and shit but dang yo.
Maybe have some sketches with?
Now you know how your mom felt.
Love how in the last panel, both have annoyed expressions on their face XD
I really hope it’s Ailduin. I really do.
If there’s any justice in this world, it will be…
No justice, it’s just us…
I’m so mad I laughed at that.
last panel is Derp Incarnate :D
where is da dog? we want to see da dog again D:<
Alfie really needs to grow up, wtf did she expect running away?
See things of the world? Try things other than the things she has always done? Lots of people end up living filled with regrets at never having tried anything else. Maybe she can learn how to fight and become an adventurer. Maybe she’ll end up really loving sex and get into that as a business? Maybe she’ll find love and somewhere and marry someone and THEN maybe be happy to settle down and fix shoes. Thousands of paths lay before her. But she knows she didn’t leave the her home and everyone she knew to do the job she could have done in Pickering in the first other town she encountered. Makes all kinds of sense.
Sort of. I, personally get what you’re saying Shogeton, but she is good at leather work. That’s kind of what Anonymous is saying.
Sure, she could find that she likes to fight (when she wins) and wants to be an adventurer, but maybe she sucks at that and gets the shit kicked out of her on her first real gig (or worse!). Maybe she really likes sex, but not the wants and desires of those willing to pay for it (plus, this is a fantasy setting with, so far, not a lot of magic; All I’m saying, STI’s).
In the “real world”, especially one like this one, you can have all sorts of desires and ambitions, but you need to be able to make it happen. Alfie is getting no help from her parents and she’s increasingly distancing herself from individuals in the caravan. She will need to support herself with something people want and she’s good at and Alfie is good at leather working.
I’m with Kali. Alfie comes off as that college girl that moves to hollywood with a dream of being an actress, while doomed to just wait tables forever. it’s fine to have dreams but acting like leaving home suddenly fills your head with knowledge and your life with adventure is really naive. Sometimes you just got to make shoes to get by. Hell she should be lucky she’s got a fuckbudy, honestly.
Oh, I get that right now, Alfie’s options to earn her daily bread in the caravan is mostly ‘do leatherworking’, just like the girl going to Hollywood has to wait tables. But she IS doing the leatherworking. She just seems dismissive about settling down and abandoning her other ambitions fully. Just because your recognize there’s still a way to go, and for now, there’s some daily grind to do while you search for the adventure you’re looking for, is a whole other thing than what the old man suggests. Which is just settle down and fully 100% go for leatherworking. It’d be more like the girl dreaming of Hollywood deciding that she should just not go to any more auditions any more in order to wait more tables. Sure, of course you wait tables, because you need to eat, and maybe you’ll never make it. But even if you never make it, at least you’ll be able to say ‘hey, I gave it all I got’ The one who just stops going to auditions is just filled with regrets and wondering about what ifs.
So I figure Alfie’s got her head on straight. Earn your keep, but don’t settle and commit to a job if you’re not happy with it.
Even if Marco or Lydia did agree to teach Alfie some combat skills, I highly doubt she’d be taken seriously as an adventurer due to the whole height issue. As a certain martial artist once said, skills mean nothing if your opponent can always just pick you up and toss you.
If her morals slip a little more, I bet she’d be a crack thief though.
Does anyone think the person calling for Alfie off screen is the elf her mom was with??
Oh it HAS to be! Or his wife maybe.
It’s probably Lydia.
If it were Lydia she’d look much happier.
It looks like she hasn’t even noticed someone’s calling her name in the last panel. She’s still staring at the old man, she probably hasn’t registered her name’s been called yet.
Damn, this new chapter has me liking Alfie less and less. She’s gotten damn entitled and I really hope it comes back to bite her
All these new characters are great, though. I really hope we wind up having a side chapter dedicated to just everyone’s normal life working the caravan
But that’s exactly what she’s doing. It’s so weird to see so many people invested in a series who want the main character to ‘grow up’ without going through the actual steps of growing up.
I’m actually liking this bit – she’s experiencing reality outside the village, and finding out that stories about adventures tend to leave out the little details. Like how most of what you do when traveling is… work. And then interact with people who don’t know you, have no reason to allow for your personal quirks, and may have wildly different customs and attitudes then you’re used to. So this is a growing up chapter for her.
So … it’s the tall lady again?
God I hope so. It oughta be interesting from here ob out
The look on her face LOL
Aw, she’s stuttering again.
Is there anyone still waiting for Alfie’s punishment impatiently? Will it ever happen though?
What the hell is wrong with you.
Maybe I’m a sadistic person who hates little creatures like her. Maybe you can pay Incase to create a new story totally worshipping Alfie. He’s a genius after all. :)
Read something else because Alfie is clearly having a better life than yours.
Punishment? No. (Unless a little playful spanking is involved, then by all means) Something that causes her to struggle and grow, absolutely. She has clearly led a sheltered (if not always tranquil) existence, and yearns for something more. If she immediately settled for what was easy and safe, we wouldn’t have much of a story, would we?
Enjoying the story doesn’t mean being a “die hard” fan of Alfie or another character. If you check the older comments under the other posts you can see some people expected even more a little playful spanking. ;) I don’t understand the sensitiveness and making assumptions about people you don’t know because they have different views than yours. She looks like a person who needs few lessons to me, but of course she is a propper girl and has no need of my Filth.
“She looks like she needs a few lessons to me” = “Something that causes her to struggle and grow” Glad you actually read these posts and feel the same way!
But why can’t she be flawed…? Why does it bother you that she took offense to what Marco said? Knowing that you want her to be raped is seriously making me care too much.
So I’ll back off.
“Punishment” is a pretty broad word. Wanting her to get raped for correcting Marco is pretty disgusting, but they both could’ve worded that interaction better, and “punishment” could just mean having angsty sex or feeling guilty and apologizing. Characters don’t grow if they don’t make mistakes and learn from them.
It’s a little naive, but in my experience the internet is a less depressing place if you can give people the benefit of the doubt.
InCase, you write amazing old men.
Hrrmm ….. Herm?
trans character CONFIRMED!
i cracked the code XD
Are you aware that Lyon is a real city in France?
Pickering is a real town too. Several, in fact.
Lol Alfie. You seriously thought there would be nothing but adventure, dick, and pussy all day every day? You Sweet Summer Child.
I think it’s more that she’s not planning to just get a job and settle down in Lyon. She’s good with doing some boring work I imagine, as long as it involves travelling around and seeing new, exciting places. Considering she got her work done ahead of time, I imagine she’s quite diligent in performing the jobs that are expected of her.
Technically, there IS a job that involves nothing but dick and pussy all day every day, but it’s a pretty unprestigious one.
I love the last frame. Alfie’s boss looks as annoyed as she does.
Agreed, though not sure if boss might be the right word given they technically work for the caravan. I’d go with overseer myself seeing as how they both seem to be in the department of repairing and furnishing leather goods but he is her senior in the department.
Sorry, my work may still be on my mind.
“Master” was the term in common use in English prior to the 18th Century. “Boss” is a Dutch word English-speakers in the North American colonies picked up in the area of what used to be New Amsterdam. It’s the Dutch word for “master,” oddly enough.
I did not know that!
That would be “Baas” then, If I may nitpick
